JOSÉ IGNACIO NUÑO ESCOBEDO

MÉXICO

Born in Mexico City in 1983, José Ignacio Nuño Escobedo completed his undergraduate studies in industrial design at Universidad Iberoamericana, specializing in visual arts. His work is the product of a mix between classical painting, the fruit of being mentored by David Kassan and Shana Levenson in ArtCritAcademy, and abstract painting. The result: a perfect balance between the meticulous work of realism in portraits and the ease that an abstract work represents. Hence the name of the series: "Realism is cured with the abstract". In parallel, he makes the effort of generating conservation and environmental awareness through his project 'Solitary Bees' in which he collects atypical bee species, classifies them and uses them as a reference for oil paintings. The first painting in the series received an honorable mention at the 6th Pedro Coronel Painting Biennial. In addition, FONCA awarded him a scholarship to further develop this project during an artistic residency in Spain in the Catalan Pyrenees.
